BOOK LAUNCH: I WON't DO WHAT YOU TELL ME
27 OCTOBER 2017
RAM GALLERI, THORVALD MEYERS GATE 51, OSLO
Kunst Vardo's publication I WON’T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME was launched in the relocated RAM Galleri. The publication expands upon the exhibition and performance programme of the same name looking at gentrification in Oslo and beyond. The launch included a performance by Kate Pendry titled, New Guidelines for Human Interaction from the European Department of Social Archeology or: (HOW NOT TO BE) ASSHOLES IN OSLO. Transcripts from artists performances can be found in the publication.
Inspired by the classic Rage Against the Machine track Killing in the Name the publication sets out to question the power of the 1%, ownership and legitimisation of authority through the premise of gentrification and the affects policies have at a human level. I WON’T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME acts as a form of collective reaction. Channelling the anger felt by the 90’s rock band artists and academics respond to gentrification on a local and global scale through essays, art works and performances texts.
Written contributors include: Simona Barbera, Amelia Beavis-Harrison, Viviana Checchia, Kate Pendry, Phillip Henderson, Maria Horvei, Frans Jacobi, Pil and Galia Kollectiv, Kate Pendry, PETER, Aria Spinelli, Ina Wudtke.
Additional contributions from: Ksenia Aksenova, Tim Etchells, Marianne Heier.
