Open Call: Nomadic Residency
Deadline: 29 September
This is an open call for artists to apply for a nomadic residency. The format of the residency is decided by the artist. Two artists will be given 10,000kr to make their own project within the period of October or November 2017. The duration, location, objectives and outcomes are all determined by the artist. Perhaps the residency is one weekend with reindeer herders, or a week camping in a remote location.
The residency encourages artists to look towards the North of Norway and Finnmark as an area to undertake their residency. Finnmark is one of the kommunes in Norway that has seen a tremendous amount of suffering by the people who live there throughout history. Whether it be through the witchcraft trials of the 17th century or through the injustices suffered by the Sami population. This combined with the harsh living conditions makes Finnmark a difficult place to call home.
The residency will be an opportunity for artists to spend an intense period researching and making work. Artists are encouraged to have a public element within their work, this could for example be working with a local community or installing their work in the landscape. The project aims to challenge artists to question themes relating to migration, traveling communities, homelessness and local / international politics.
Whilst undertaking the residency artists will be expected to make a video which will be shown on the KV-TV site for Kunst Vardo. The video can be an art work or a documentation of the working process. The videos will go live in December 2017.
The residency focuses on production but does not require the artists to have completed artworks. Should art works be completed during the residency or as a result of the residency opportunities to show the work will be explored with Kunst Vardo at a later date
Email one PDF with the following content:
